On the November 22 2010 WWE Raw, John Cena said farewell to the WWE Universe, and The Miz cashed in his Money in the Bank contract to become WWE Champion.
The November 22 2010 WWE Raw began with The Nexus coming to the ring. Wade Barrett announced that the night before, John Cena had looked him in the eye, and Barrett fired him. He said Cena was willing to sacrifice his career to do the right thing, but that meant Barrett hadn’t had a fighting chance to become WWE Champion when he faced Randy Orton at Survivor Series. He said a referee shouldn’t be able to touch a wrestler, but Cena had shoved him. Barrett said he wanted another match against Orton with an unbiased referee.
Wade Barrett vs. Randy Orton on Raw November 22 2010
Michael Cole announced for the GM that there was validity to Barrett’s complaint. The GM made a match of Randy Orton vs. Wade Barrett for that night. Barrett thanked him, and said he’d allowed Cena to appear on Raw that night to say his final words to the fans.
King of the Ring Returns to Raw, CM Punk Joins the Raw Commentators
An announcement was made that the King of the Ring tournament would return to Raw for a three-hour edition of the November 29 2010 show. Michael Cole then announced that CM Punk would now be part of the Raw commentators. Punk joined Cole and Jerry Lawler.
R-Truth vs. Sheamus: King of the Ring Qualifying Match
Truth and Sheamus locked up, and Sheamus took Truth down with a headlock. Truth got out of it but Sheamus continued on offense. Sheamus missed a clothesline and Truth kicked him in the head. Back from commercial break, Sheamus continued on offense, working on Truth’s arm. Truth managed to escape and hit Sheamus with rights and kicks. Truth clotheslined Sheamus repeatedly and gave him a hip toss. He went for a pin but Sheamus kicked out.
Truth pushed Sheamus into the corner and landed a kick. He hit Sheamus with a missile dropkick from the top rope and went for a pin but Sheamus kicked out. Sheamus gave Truth the Brogue Kick and followed with the Irish Curse. Sheamus pinned Truth to win the first King of the Ring qualifying match.
Backstage on Raw
Backstage, Michelle McCool and Layla complained and said that their titles had been stolen. The security guard asked what they were doing there, and said he didn’t see their names on the list. They threatened to cause him trouble. Natalya Neidhart showed up and said she’d never seen them before. The guard kicked them out.
Also backstage, Santino Marella and Kozlov talked about their loss against Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater at Survivor Series. He wondered if anything could make him feel better. Tamina played a ukelele and sang for him. Tamina and Santino kissed, and she told him to call her.
Randy Orton told Josh Matthews that Cena had counted his match down the middle, but he respected him for doing the right thing. He said it didn’t matter who the referee for his upcoming match was—Barrett would not get Orton’s WWE Championship.
Ezekiel Jackson vs. Alex Riley: King of the Ring Qualifying Match
It was supposed to be Jackson vs. The Miz, but Riley claimed Miz had an anxiety attack, so Riley would face Jackson for him. Riley grabbed Jackson in a waistlock but Jackson reversed it and took him to the ropes. Riley elbowed him and hammered him in the head. Jackson kicked Riley in the gut and threw him into the corner. Jackson missed a charge in the corner but Riley splashed onto him. Riley got Jackson in a headlock but Jackson powered out and clotheslined him. Jackson chokeslammed him and pinned Riley for the win.
John Cena Says Farewell to the WWE Universe
John Cena came to the ring and said Randy Orton was still WWE Champion, so he was fired. Cena said he didn’t think it would happen. He reflected on his past hardships and how he never thought he’d make it to WWE. Cena told the fans that they had no idea how much he respected WWE. He said he appreciates every wrestler that allowed him to be there, like The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Triple H and others.
Cena talked about all the things he’d gotten to do in the company, and said he wouldn’t let Nexus ruin the best nine years of his life. He said he wanted to give everything to the fans and made a lot of sacrifices. Cena said he would spend time with his family. Cena said he loved the fans’ honesty, and asked every woman and child to chant “Let’s go Cena!” and every adult male to chant “Cena sucks!” Cena thanked them for their passion.
Cena said he wanted to address Wade Barrett. He told Barrett he might have peed in his coffee a few times, and told Barrett to quit taking the easy way out. It would come back to haunt him if he didn’t stop. Cena thanked the WWE Universe for allowing him to follow his dream and said he loved them. He saluted and left the stage. Backstage, all the wrestlers and employees applauded for him. Orton and Cena shook hands and hugged, and Cena walked off. Barrett made the “You Can’t See Me” sign.
Ted DiBiase vs. Daniel Bryan: King of the Ring Qualifying Match
Brie Bella accompanied Daniel Bryan to the ring. DiBiase knocked Bryan down and began pummeling him. DiBiase continued to dominate and went for a pin but Bryan kicked out. He dropped Bryan on the top rope and went for another cover but Bryan kicked out. DiBiase got Bryan in a waistlock but Bryan elbowed his way out. DiBiase missed a charge in the corner and Bryan dropkicked him. DiBiase retaliated with a spinebuster and went for a pin but only got two. Bryan locked in the LeBell Lock and DiBiase tapped, making Bryan the winner.
Alicia Fox vs. Natalya Neidhart
Alicia Fox took on Natalya Neidhart in a non-title match. Natalya was mostly on the offensive against Fox in a very short match, and won the bout when Fox tapped out to the Sharpshooter.
Tyson Kidd vs. John Morrison: King of the Ring Qualifying Match
The two locked up and exchanged twists and holds. Kidd stomped Morrison in the corner and worked in a headlock. Morrison hit his way out and kicked Kidd in the head. Kidd left the ring and as Morrison tried to pull him back in, Kidd kicked him in the head. Kidd gave Morrison a swinging neckbreaker and went for a pin but Morrison kicked out. Tyson hit and kicked Morrison in the corner. John elbowed Kidd in the head and connected with Flying Chuck. Morrison hit Kidd with Starship Pain and pinned Kidd for the win.
It was announced that The Big Show, Kofi Kingston, Alberto Del Rio, Drew McIntyre, Rey Mysterio, Jack Swagger, Cody Rhodes and MVP would all compete on Smackdown for a chance to qualify for King of the Ring.
Wade Barrett vs. Randy Orton
As Randy Orton made his entrance, The Nexus ambushed him. Orton favored his knee as referees ordered Nexus to leave. Husky Harris took another shot at Orton’s injured knee. Cole announced that the GM had banned Nexus from ringside. The match began with Barrett and Orton circling each other, and Barrett kicked Orton in the gut. Orton fought back with hits but Barrett began working on Orton’s knee.
Barrett continued to target Orton’s knee, wrenching it and slamming it against the ring apron. Back in the ring, Barrett twisted Orton’s leg and brought his knee down against the mat. Orton kicked out of a pin attempt. Barrett twisted Orton’s leg again but Orton pushed him into the corner.
Orton gave Barrett a backbreaker but Barrett gave Orton Wasteland. He went for a pin but John Cena appeared and pulled the referee out of the ring. He gave Barrett the Attitude Adjustment and hit him with a flurry of punches before fleeing the ring as Nexus went after him. Orton gave Barrett the RKO and pinned Barrett to win the match.
The Miz Becomes WWE Champion After Cashing in His Money in the Bank Contract
The Miz’s music hit, and he ran to the ring to cash in his Money in the Bank contract. They circled each other, and Miz went after Orton’s knee as Orton pummeled his back. Miz repeatedly kicked and elbowed Orton’s knee, and wrenched it against the ring post multiple times. Back in the ring, Orton clotheslined Miz and tried for the hangman’s DDT but Miz attacked his knee. Orton scoopslammed Miz and signaled for the RKO but Miz turned it into the Skullcrushing Finale. Miz pinned Orton and became the new WWE Champion.
