Despite boasting not a single loss in their opening fourteen matches of the Premier League camapign, Manchester United still look unconvincing. Sir Alex Ferguson's men may have failed to lose and sit in a dominaitng and commanding second place, equal points but a lesser goal difference to leaders Chelsea, but United seem to be less clinical than in recent years.
Albeit the Red Devils have endured injury woes, none other than Wayne Rooney, but if Sir Alex Ferguson and his squad wants to reinforce their presence throughout England and Europe as well as regaining the Premiership crown, United will need to find consistency and become more clinical.
January could loom as a perferct time to reinforce their presence should the English giants fortunes worsen. Not only does Sir Alex Ferguson have the opportunity to attract the World's best talent, but the Scottish tactictian has the chance to offload his under acheivers.
However United boast a formidabale squad with endless quality and it is rare to find under acheivers but none the less this article will establish five players Sir Alex Ferguson may have to sell in January.
1.Wes Brown
A local hero who has been at Old Trafford for 14 years now. Wes Brown has always gone about his defensive work in a tidy, no nonense manner that almost always is over looked due to the lack of flash involved. In a team that's boasted Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham, the 31 year old's efforts have often been misjudged but theres no denying the Englishman has been a true legend for the club.
However at 31 the English international is not quite as strong and powerful as he was once was. United have always maintained a strong defensive line but this season it has not been at full power. No doubt Ferguson will look to attract big name defensive signings to Old Trafford which could force Brown to leave.
2. Michael Owen
The once England great struggles to fulfil a consistent playing regime with United and with the likes of Javier Hernadez and Bebe emerging as youthful talents alongside Danny Welbeck and Mame Biram Diouf impressing on their loan spells, Owen could find himself congested by younger prospects.
There's no denying the 30 year old can still cut it in the World's best league but at a clubs as prestigious as United January could signal the end for the former Liverpool sharpshooter.
3. Owen Hargreaves
Since joining Manchester United in 2007 the English midfielder has been decimated and plagued by injury. In the laste three seasons the 29 year old has made four appearances due to various knee and ligament injuries.
Hargreaves lasted 30 minutes so far this season and it's unclear whether or not the former Bayern Munich will ever return for good.
